Learn the ancient art of wet felting to create your own cozy, custom-fitted wool slippers. Using just wool roving, warm water, and soap, you will transform soft wool fibers into a durable and unique pair of wearable art.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to:
- Create a custom resist pattern that accounts for shrinkage to ensure a perfect fit.
- Layer wool roving in strategic directions to create a seamless, three-dimensional form.
- Apply warm, soapy water and use physical agitation to bind the wool fibers together.
- Shape and "full" the felted wool to your desired thickness and size.
- Explore decorative techniques using different colors or textural fibers like silk or hemp.
- (Optional) Learn how to add non-slip soles to your finished slippers for a professional touch.
- A large old towel that you don't mind getting wet.
- Wear clothes that can get a little wet.
- Enthusiasm for a physically engaging and rewarding craft.
- PLEASE BRING A SACK LUNCH. We will take a short lunch break. Note: There is no refrigeration at the studio.
- High-quality merino or other felting wool in a variety of colors.
- Resist materials (e.g., plastic or bubble wrap).
- Felting soap.
- Other tools for rolling and shaping.
Note: The finished slippers will be damp at the end of class and will require additional drying time at home.

In this Introductory workshop, you will experience the ancient traditional craft of wet felting and create a beautiful wool spring purse - a gift or keepsake to treasure forever. Wet-felting offers a unique opportunity to slow down and immerse yourself in a mindful, tactile experience. As you carefully sculpt soft, wet wool, you'll express your creativity and discover the meditative joy of working with natural materials.
We will guide you through every step. You will learn the wet-felting process to create your purse, working with wool and other natural fibers over a flat resist. You will choose the colors and embellishments to make one uniquely yours. We'll have examples for inspiration and demonstrations to help you along the way. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY, and your registration fee includes all your materials.
